Feeding

Hey there fellow felines and human pets!

Fuzz here, to talk about something that I know is on everyone's mind – food! As you all know, us cats have it pretty good. We get fed delicious meals every day and have cosy beds to sleep in. But let's be real, we're not just going to eat any old thing. No, we have standards.

But have you ever stopped to think about the best way to feed us? Well, allow me to share some tips from the experts at Fuzzball…

First of all, it's important to remember that cats are ‘obligate carnivores,’ which means that they require a diet that is high in animal protein. This means that our meals should be primarily made up of meat, rather than plants or grain fillers.

To kibble or not to kibble:

This is a convenient option, but make sure to choose a high-quality brand like Fuzzball that contains real meat as the first ingredient. It's also important to monitor how much we eat, as it's easy to overeat and become overweight on a diet solely consisting of dry food as it tends to have more calories and less water than wet food. So, you might want to mix it up and give us a good balance of both wet and dry food. Wet food is a great choice, as it contains more moisture which is important for cats’ urinary tract health.

Keep an eye on quantity!

It's crucial to pay attention to portion sizes. Overfeeding can lead to obesity, which can increase our risk of health problems such as diabetes and make joint problems worse. Use measuring cups or a kitchen scale to ensure that you are providing the correct amount of food based on each unique Fuzzballer’s size and activity level. As for treats, moderation is key. We love a good treat every now and then, but it's important to remember that treats should only make up about 10% of a cats daily caloric intake, stick to real meat options like Fuzzball’s freeze dried chicken or salmon.

When and how often?

Another important consideration is feeding frequency. Kittens and nursing mothers may need to eat several small meals a day, but adult cats can generally do well with two larger meals. Some cats may prefer to graze and have access to food all day, while others do better with set meal times. Experiment to see what works best for your Fuzzballer.

Water!!

And last but not least, don't forget to provide plenty of fresh water at all times. Water is vital for cats’ health and often cats will turn their noses up at water that isn’t replaced frequently, they’ll make you work for it! Also consider a water fountain and offer more than one source of water, ideally in a flat, ceramic bowl filled to the top!

So, there you have it, a few simple tips for ensuring that your feline friend is getting the nourishment they need. Happy eating!
