Struggling?

Let’s try a different approach. Don’t worry about getting your cat onto a full bowl of Fuzzball yet. For now, the goal is simply to get them comfortable with something new in their bowl.

Tip 01

Start really small

Put a teaspoon of Fuzzball alongside their usual food rather than replacing it or mixing it through the whole meal.

Try thisA teaspoon alongsideTheir usual food as normal, with a little Fuzzball next to it.
Not yetReplacing or mixingHold off swapping their food or mixing Fuzzball through the whole meal.

Even if they only sniff it at first, leave it there for a few meals. Once they start tasting it, you can gradually increase the amount.

Tip 02

Try another recipe

One flavour getting rejected doesn’t necessarily mean Fuzzball is a no-go. Cats can be very particular about both flavour and texture.

Finding the one they’ll try

  1. Start with a familiar flavourBegin with the Fuzzball recipe closest to what they already eat. If they’re used to chicken, start with chicken.
  2. One recipe at a timeTry the other recipes in the trial separately and see whether one gets a better reaction.
  3. Start with the winnerUse the one they’re keenest on as their way in.

Tip 03

Make it more tempting

Use a little of the Fuzzball sprinkles on top. If they’re trying the wet food, serve it at room temperature or warm it very slightly to bring out the aroma. You can also add a small amount of warm water if they prefer a softer, wetter texture.

Tip 04

Don’t let them go hungry

Never withhold their usual food in the hope that they’ll eventually give in and eat the new one.

If they’re refusing Fuzzball, keep feeding what you know they’ll eat and introduce Fuzzball alongside it gradually.

Tip 05

Give it time

There’s no deadline for completing the transition. Some cats simply need longer than others, especially if they’ve eaten the same food for a long time.

Small amountsRepeated exposurePatience

Small amounts, repeated exposure and patience usually work better than trying to push through quickly.
